UPDATE: New Sermons

December 6, 2011 — Leave a comment

I have added some new sermons to my sermon page so check it out.

Sorry for the lack of posts in the past couple of weeks but I just haven’t felt like posting.  It’s not that I have a shortage of material as there is a lot I want to say but I just do not have the inclination to write.  The irony of it all is that I am blogging to you now about how I haven’t desired to blog.  I am going to cut “The Dirty Seven” series and I may just post some reflections on devotional readings.  Just not feeling it though.

Hope to write soon.

This has been a long time coming but I think I need a break from blogging and Facebook.  I have managed my time well but it seems that I just need to step away for a period of time to take a break and remove myself for a period of rest.  This week has been a challenging week but preparations for summer in youth ministry demand my time and I need to be a better husband and father.

I am not having a meltdown or seeping into deep depression so please do not read into this more than what it is.  I do not have an estimated date at when I will come back.

I will continue to do my Youth Ministry 6.3 vlog and here are some ways to connect to that:

Should you need to contact me send me an e-mail:

See you when I see you.

I will not be posting for a few days but plan on returning to the Christmas series on Monday.  I have added three sermons and a world religions study on the “Sermons and Class Material” page.

Check it out at

Mackenzie Minutes

So I am starting a semi-daily encouragement for youth ministers and I am calling it the Mackenzie Minute.  I will post videos on websites with the purpose of encouraging youth ministers across the spectrum.  It’s just a minute (except this one) each day to help youth minister’s stick with it.

Let me know what you think…

Main Street U Podcast

Below is a sample of the podcast I am doing with the college students.  The website is if you want to bookmark it.  You can subscribe to the podcast via I-tunes by clicking on the I-Tunes icon at the above website.  Hope you enjoy this and spread the word.

Check out the “Sermons and Class Material” Tab and you will notice that I added a ton of sermons and some class material that I think you should check out.  Especially the class material.

So a week ago I posted a rant about grocery stores (read it here) and thought I was good and got it all off my chest.  And then this morning this is what I saw…

If you read my post you will get a kick out of this but if you have not then read it again and then look at the picture.  Two things you need to know: 1) We are in the 20 items-or-less check out lane and 2) cokes were on sale today…he got most of them himself.  The person in front of me (holding the bananas) was irritated as well…little did he know I posted something a week ago.  I recognized the person who purchased these drinks and he owns a gas station in Robertson County and this is how he purchases his two litres.  I think it is cheaper to purchase it directly from Coca-Cola but oh well.  Wal-MArt made their profit…so did Coca-Cola…and I had to wait in line for this.  IRONY!!!

If you look to the right you will notice some different things.  You can click on the cause I am supporting and for no charge that will automatically go for donations which costs nothing to you but simply clicking on it.  Check it out.  You can now subsribe to my blog by clicking to the right and then everytime I come up with a new post it will automatically e-mail you!  Sound cool?

Another thing I am doing is trying to lose weight and I am doing a weight tracker.  My goal is to get down to 199 lbs by June 1st.  I have not been under 200 lbs since 2004.  I am hoping you can give me words of encouragement and keep me accountable.  So periodically check in and see how I am doing.  I need to lose about 2.5 lbs a week to get to my goal.  It is not out of the question but seems to be difficult with all of the youth events we have.

As you well know I have had a temporary retreat from blogging.  It was due to a week-long class I took at Lipscomb and also I just wanted to step away for a little.  I decided not to continue the Living with and without campaign because I felt a little Pharasaical for doing it.  Like I wanted attention or something so I quit doing that.

I am preaching a series of lessons each week surrounding the concept of helping each other and God helping us.  It has been both an eye-opening and ego-humbling experience.  It is for a class at Lipscomb and I have asked a few people to anonymously critique my sermon content, delivery, etc.  It is humbling what people say under the auspices of anonymity.  however, it is needed criticism as sometimes preachers think they know it all…just when you think you do…get critiqued.

Samuel Edward is doing well but has been unusually fussy these few days.  Madelyn wakes up every night and comes in our bed and the night before Amelia wet her bed.  Life with 4 kids is challenging.

I came across this verse for my daily devotional and how appropriate it is for perspective: “Shall we receive good from God, and shall we not receive evil?” (Job. 2:10).  Not that what is happening in my life is evil, but just challenging.  Adversity is the pill of those who triumph in Christ.
